How Do I Add a YouTube or Vimeo Video to My Presentation?

Print Friendly and PDF

Proclaim makes it easy to insert videos from popular online sources such as YouTube or Vimeo. While in Edit mode you will only see the website favicon until you Preview or go On Air.

Add a YouTube Video

1. Add a Web Page service item.

Click Add Item and select Web Page.

2. Paste the URL of your video into the address bar.

Proclaim automatically formats your video on the slide in any aspect ratio.

3. The video plays in full screen mode when you navigate to the service item in OnAir mode.

  • YouTube videos are set to autoplay from the beginning. To start the video manually, find the code in the URL autoplay=1 and change the 1 to a 0.

  • Change the start time of the video by inserting &start=[number of seconds from the beginning] at the end of the URL. For example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbuB2RFm_k0&feature=youtu.be&start=30

  • Find a full list of YouTube’s parameters listed here.

Note: Use the full URL for YouTube videos; shortened URL’s (such as https://youtu.be/pbuB2RFm_k0) do not format correctly and cause issues. To get the full YouTube video URL, find the video via searching on youtube.com, view the YouTube video, and copy the URL in your browser’s address bar. If you have a shortened URL, open the YouTube video’s page using the shortened URL and then copy the full URL from your browser’s address bar.

Add a Vimeo Video

1. Add a Web Page service item.

Click Add Item and select Web Page.

2. Paste the following URL into the address bar: https://player.vimeo.com/video/

Note: Proclaim does not automatically format Vimeo URL’s for a fullscreen embedded view.

3. Insert your Vimeo video ID.

For example: If the URL for the video you want to play is https://vimeo.com/236437757, copy 236437757 (the video ID) and paste it at the end of the URL in the address bar. The resulting URL is https://player.vimeo.com/video/236437757

4. The video plays in full screen mode when you navigate to the service item in OnAir mode.

  • To start your video automatically, insert ?autoplay=1 at the end of the URL (e.g. https://player.vimeo.com/video/236437757?autoplay=1).
  • To start your video from a specific time, insert #t=XmYs (where X and Y are the minutes and seconds) at the end of the URL.
  • For example: https://player.vimeo.com/video/236437757?autoplay=1#t=1m15s starts the video automatically at the 1:15 mark.

Troubleshooting Adding a Video

  • Make sure the most recent version of Adobe Flash is installed on your computer by following these directions.
  • Some videos may not have the formats available to play in Proclaim. If you have trouble, try downloading the video and then add it to your presentation as a video item.
