On Windows, users occasionally experience problems with videos freezing or with high memory usage. In these cases, disabling hardware acceleration may help.

What Causes the Problem

Proclaim uses Windows Media Player to play videos on PC’s running Windows. There is an issue with some versions of Windows Media Player using certain display drivers that can result in 1) videos freezing and 2) very high Proclaim memory usage.

Continued use of Proclaim experiencing this often results in Proclaim running out of memory and crashing. Disabling hardware acceleration often resolves this issue.

Warning! Disabling hardware acceleration may decrease the overall performance of Proclaim and should not be done on machines not experiencing this issue.

Prerequisites to Disabling Hardware Acceleration

Before disabling hardware acceleration, ensure your video drivers are up to date.

• Check Windows Update for video driver updates
  AND
• Check the computer or video card manufacturer’s site for updates

How to Disable Hardware Acceleration

By default hardware acceleration is enabled. To disable it:

1. Open the Settings menu in Proclaim.
2. Click General.
3. Check or uncheck the box to disable/enable hardware acceleration.

Note: Disabling hardware acceleration is a per-machine setting. If you re-install Proclaim or go to a different machine this setting will not be applied to that instance of Proclaim.
